Euthanasia – a good death?

Following on from an earlier post I thought I would look at this. Euthanasia is not as it sounds young people from China and India for example, or indeed preferring the European Union over Asia, but as Wikipedia says

Euthanasia (from Greek: εὐθανασία, lit. ’good death’: εὖ, eu, ‘well, good’ + θάνατος, thanatos, ‘death’) is the practice of intentionally ending life to eliminate pain and suffering.

Early history

Euthanasia was practiced in Ancient Greece and Rome: for example, hemlock was employed as a means of hastening death on the island of Kea, a technique also employed in Massalia.

Hemlock is a type of wood and well as a poison. I am not aware that its furniture is made of hemlock but nowadays, rather than Kea, your death can be hastened by Ikea!

Euthanasia, in the sense of the deliberate hastening of a person’s death, was supported by Socrates, Plato and Seneca the Elder in the ancient world, although Hippocrates appears to have spoken against the practice, writing “I will not prescribe a deadly drug to please someone, nor give advice that may cause his death” (noting there is some debate in the literature about whether or not this was intended to encompass euthanasia).

Hippocrates is of course the one from whom the Hippocratic Oath for doctors of medicine, which might be summed up as “Practice two things in your dealings with disease: either help or do not harm the patient”.

Much of the argument around euthanasia is not so much what an individual choses to do to themselves, so much as what others may do to help that process.

Early modern period

The term euthanasia, in the earlier sense of supporting someone as they died, was used for the first time by Francis Bacon. In his work, Euthanasia medica, he chose this ancient Greek word and, in doing so, distinguished between euthanasia interior, the preparation of the soul for death, and euthanasia exterior, which was intended to make the end of life easier and painless, in exceptional circumstances by shortening life.

Of course bacon might be used for slowly shortening life if it contains sodium nitrite! Sodium nitrite is neurotoxic – see my link at end.

The concept of euthanasia in the sense of alleviating the process of death goes back to the medical historian Karl Friedrich Heinrich Marx, who drew on Bacon’s philosophical ideas. According to Marx, a doctor had a moral duty to ease the suffering of death through encouragement, support and mitigation using medication.

This is another Marx, not the more infamous one who founded Marxism. They are not apparently directly related although they both were Jewish.

Still, I am not sure that death isn’t a common denominator between the two men.

After all godless Marxism had led to the death of society.

Euthanasia in its modern sense has always been strongly opposed in the Judeo-Christian tradition.

It indicates the so-called Age of Enlightenment opened up questions on euthanasia and physician-assisted suicide, although this was firmly resisted.

I see ‘Age of Enlightenment’ anagrams to the single longest word ‘entanglement’ and this phrase

Which might describe much of what this age brought us.

Beginnings of the contemporary euthanasia debate

In 1870 Samuel Williams, a schoolteacher, initiated the contemporary euthanasia debate through a speech given at the Birmingham Speculative Club in England, which was subsequently published in a one-off publication entitled Essays of the Birmingham Speculative Club, the collected works of a number of members of an amateur philosophical society.

Williams’ proposal was to use chloroform to deliberately hasten the death of terminally ill patients:

That in all cases of hopeless and painful illness, it should be the recognized duty of the medical attendant, whenever so desired by the patient, to administer chloroform or such other anaesthetic as may by-and-bye supersede chloroform – so as to destroy consciousness at once, and put the sufferer to a quick and painless death; all needful precautions being adopted to prevent any possible abuse of such duty; and means being taken to establish, beyond the possibility of doubt or question, that the remedy was applied at the express wish of the patient.

There were those in favour.

Lionel Tollemache wrote in favour of euthanasia, as did Annie Besant, the essayist and reformer who later became involved with the National Secular Society, considering it a duty to society to “die voluntarily and painlessly” when one reaches the point of becoming a ‘burden’.

A duty to society eh? For the ‘greater good’ I suppose. Sounds like the totalitarian state.

I see Annie Besant is described in her Wikipedia page as ‘a British socialist, theosophist, freemason, women’s rights and Home Rule activist, educationist and campaigner for Indian nationalism.’

I also note that ‘been in Satan’ is one anagram of her name.

And an anagram of the ‘National Secular Society’ is

Birds of a feather flock together they say. What is very interesting is that on Besant’s wiki page is a reference to a Charles Webster Leadbeater with whom she was associated in the Theosophical Society and Co-Freemasonry.

This is because the surname is the same as Kim Leadbeater, the sponsor of the Assisted Dying Bill introduced to parliament in the UK and due for its second reading on Friday 29^th this month.

Early euthanasia movement in the United States

You can read about it but I note this at the end of the section.

Euthanasia opponent Ian Dowbiggin argues that the early membership of the Euthanasia Society of America (ESA) reflected how many perceived euthanasia at the time, often seeing it as a eugenics matter rather than an issue concerning individual rights.

Dowbiggin argues that not every eugenist joined the ESA “solely for eugenic reasons”, but he postulates that there were clear ideological connections between the eugenics and euthanasia movements.

This has been one of the main issues, the sterilisation of the so-called ‘unfit’ by those who deem themselves ‘fit’. This has been much down to the ‘survival of the fittest’ mantra via Charles Darwin’s ‘On the Origin of Species’.

We can note that Charles Robert Darwin, his full name, anagrams to:

No wonder we have problems. I see Ian Dowbiggin has a Wikipedia page. It says

Dowbiggin has spoken against euthanasia legislation and said that the Netherlands exists as a “cautionary lesson” for Canada in particular, showing that those places that “take a permissive attitude to assisted suicide keep pushing the boundaries.”

This is ever the case, whatever it might be, the descent to chaos and death.

1930s in Britain

The Voluntary Euthanasia Legalisation Society was founded in 1935 by Charles Killick Millard (now called Dignity in Dying). The movement campaigned for the legalisation of euthanasia in Great Britain.

Charles Killick Millard was a British doctor who was a strong supporter of vaccination. His Wikipedia page says

There had been strong opposition to compulsory smallpox vaccination in Leicester for many years and, as a strong supporter of vaccination, Millard had to work within this established framework.

Whilst still supporting vaccination he argued against compulsory vaccination of infants and the use of mass vaccination to control outbreaks. Instead, he advocated isolation of cases and voluntary vaccination of medical and nursing staff and of contacts of cases. This proved successful and was adopted generally when compulsory vaccination was abolished.

The strong opposition was because people saw how many died from the vaccinations. The alleged success will be because they were not poisoning the bulk of the people with vaccines and general improvement in sanitation etc.

It says

He is known for his responsibility in the death of George V, who under his care was surreptitiously injected with a fatal dose of cocaine and morphine to hasten his death, without obtaining any prior patient consent and in contravention of the law at the time, possibly constituting or amounting to murder and high treason.

After the king’s death in 1936

Dawson’s public stance on euthanasia was expressed later that year when he opposed a move in the Lords to legalise it because it “belongs to the wisdom and conscience of the medical profession and not to the realm of law”.

In 1986, the contents of Dawson’s diary were made public for the first time, in which he clearly acknowledged what he had done—which was described by a medical reviewer in 1994 as an arrogant “convenience killing”. His actions have also been described as murder.

Bertrand Dawson happens to anagram to:

Nazi Euthanasia Program

According to Wikipedia

A 24 July 1939 killing of a severely disabled infant in Nazi Germany was described in a BBC “Genocide Under the Nazis Timeline” as the first “state-sponsored euthanasia”.

The boy was

born blind, with missing limbs, subject to convulsions, and reportedly “an idiot”

and

provided “the rationale for a secret Nazi decree that led to ‘mercy killings’ of almost 300,000 mentally and physically handicapped people”.

While Kretchmar’s killing received parental consent, most of the 5,000 to 8,000 children killed afterwards were forcibly taken from their parents.

We don’t have that today but in Belgium children under 12 can be euthanised. I understand the same applies in the Netherlands.

The “euthanasia campaign” of mass murder gathered momentum on 14 January 1940 when the “handicapped” were killed with gas vans and at killing centres, eventually leading to the deaths of 70,000 adult Germans, was a campaign of mass murder by involuntary euthanasia in Nazi Germany.

the Nazi version of “euthanasia” was based on the work of Adolf Jost, who published The Right to Death (Das Recht auf den Tod) in 1895. Lifton writes:

Jost argued that control over the death of the individual must ultimately belong to the social organism, the state.

This concept is in direct opposition to the Anglo-American concept of euthanasia, which emphasizes the individual’s ‘right to die’ or ‘right to death’ or ‘right to his or her own death,’ as the ultimate human claim.

In contrast, Jost was pointing to the state’s right to kill. … Ultimately the argument was biological: ‘The rights to death [are] the key to the fitness of life.’ The state must own death—must kill—in order to keep the social organism alive and healthy.

Compared to the discussions of euthanasia that emerged post-war, the Nazi program may have been worded in terms that appear similar to the modern use of “euthanasia”, but there was no “mercy” and the patients were not necessarily terminally ill.

And indeed we see the same today as the scope is extended in those countries which have legalised it.

Despite these differences, historian and euthanasia opponent Ian Dowbiggin writes that “the origins of Nazi euthanasia, like those of the American euthanasia movement, predate the Third Reich and were intertwined with the history of eugenics and Social Darwinism, and with efforts to discredit traditional morality and ethics.”

It was Darwin’s theories which were taken and developed to reduce mankind to a meaningless collection of cells with no purpose in life.

Perhaps it is not surprising that ‘Social Darwinism’ has the longest single anagram word ‘criminaloid’ and the full phrase ‘criminaloid saws’, saws as in sayings.

Debate

According to euthanasia opponent Ezekiel Emanuel, proponents of euthanasia have presented four main arguments:

a) that people have a right to self-determination, and thus should be allowed to choose their own fate;

b) assisting a subject to die might be a better choice than requiring that they continue to suffer;

c) the distinction between passive euthanasia, which is often permitted, and active euthanasia, which is not substantive (or that the underlying principle–the doctrine of double effect–is unreasonable or unsound);

d) permitting euthanasia will not necessarily lead to unacceptable consequences.

Pro-euthanasia activists often point to countries like the Netherlands and Belgium, and states like Oregon, where euthanasia has been legalized, to argue that it is mostly unproblematic.

Mostly unproblematic eh? The problems are not mentioned though for us to check. I see from

By far, most reported cases concerned cancer patients. Also, in most cases the procedure was applied at home.

As I now know that cancer is largely what the pharmaceutical industry causes via its toxic chemicals, one must ask why such people were not properly advised or tested.

The answer is it is too profitable for big pharma and the cancer industry including the charities to do otherwise.

How many of those who ended their lives might have lived healthy fulfilled lives if they had been properly treated?

So we see it gets expanded, a slippery slope. At the bottom of the article it says

According to Diaz, however, the existing safeguards in Oregon’s laws mean that it is unlikely for this to occur. “There’s no tourism going on,” he said.

Again the use of weasel word, ‘unlikely’.

‘Casuistically’ is one of the second longest anagram words out of ‘Medically Assisted Suicide’. So we can have

d) legalising euthanasia will place society on a slippery slope, which will lead to unacceptable consequences.

This is regards a Flemish doctor in Antwerp, Belgium. He says

‘”Maybe 140,” he concludes after a quick calculation, adding that he has advised perhaps another 500 on euthanasia procedures. “But they did not all go through with it and die, of course.”‘

Would you want to go to a doctor like this, and would you trust him?

There is a quote from Justin Welby the Archbishop of Canterbury who, despite his stance on vaccines, is quoted below:

Curiously, Van Hoey says of the investigation that he feels a Sword of Damocles hangs over him. Readers may recall the image being invoked during debate on Lord Falconer’s Assisted Dying Bill, when Archbishop Justin Welby wrote:

‘It would be very naive to think that many of the elderly people who are abused and neglected each year, as well as many severely disabled individuals, would not be put under pressure to end their lives if assisted suicide were permitted by law.

‘It would be equally naive to believe, as the Assisted Dying Bill suggests, that such pressure could be recognised in every instance by doctors given the task of assessing requests for assisted suicide. Abuse, coercion and intimidation can be slow instruments in the hands of the unscrupulous, creating pressure on vulnerable people who are encouraged to “do the decent thing”.

Even where such pressure is not overt, the very presence of a law that permits assisted suicide on the terms proposed by Lord Falconer of Thoroton is bound to lead to sensitive individuals feeling that they ought to stop “being a burden to others”. What sort of society would we be creating if we were to allow this sword of Damocles to hang over the head of every vulnerable, terminally ill person in the country?

‘This is a moral decision: it is not compassion if in voting for my companion I expose others to danger.’

And I think that is very well said.

Summary and final thoughts

There is so much that could be covered and set out on this, but really the bottom line is this:

Euthanasia is the work of Satan, the Devil, a bringer of death, an angel of death who as the scriptures say:

“…prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.”

In the UK there is the Assisted Dying Bill which will have its Second Reading this Friday.

Permitting the taking of a human life in this way is the thin edge of the wedge, one of a whole series of wedges jamming the door further and further open, the door that has been holding back the demonic forces.

We have allowed such things to take place because we compared it to a recent state, and did not look at where we had come from decades ago.

We removed the death penalty for murder from the statute books, a deterrent to abuse, yet now it is proposed that Assisted Dying be legalised.

So many people in the UK have been traumatised by the COVID 19 scam and there are those taking the opportunity to capitalise on this.

We have been chemically attacked by the toxic vaccines etc. and financially punished by those who have been asset stripping the UK, both from without and within.

This includes the governments, both Tories and Labour, putting the country into huge debt.

Dignity in Dying, formerly the Voluntary Euthanasia Legalisation Society was founded by a vaccinationist, Charles Killick Millard. Now we have a similar situation where an onslaught of poison vaccines is followed by a push to further kill people.

Assisted Dying is a sanitised phrase for ‘Medically Assisted Suicide’ and as I have indicated there are significant anagrams which expose the some of the mind-set behind it.

Nazi Germany killed its unwanted, its ‘unfit, in pursuit of racial purity. We don’t see that racial purity argument, but it is the same Nazi Germany behind the pharmaceuticals which will be used to end someone’s life.

Much of this ultimately is about the money, lots of it, as Assisted Dying or legalised killing as I will call it, will be financially profitable.

It is wrapped up in terms of ‘compassion’ and ‘end needless suffering’, but these are words being exploited by the vultures who circle around waiting to pick the bones of the dead.

This is how far we have come as a society to our shame.

As to Kim Leadbeater who introduced the bill, I hope to do a post on her and with some more information before Friday if I can.

But in case I don’t, you might wish to consider this. Her full name is Kim Michele Leadbeater. This includes some positive words but I have found quite a few to do with death. I will leave you with these phrases.
