“In the beginning was the word AND…” – the missing word in the first line of Genesis
By Baldmichael Theresoluteprotector’sson
This is a well-known phrase to those who know their bibles and is from the gospel of John ch. 1 v. 1.
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”
This is further explained by John as to mean Jesus Christ in verse 17.
The stress has always been on the word ‘word’, logos in the Greek, rather than ‘and’, kai in the Greek, which one might think ‘Well, what else?’
The thing is that there really was in the beginning the word ‘and’. I’ll explain why. Let’s go back to the beginning of the Bible.
Genesis ch. 1 v. 1.
“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”
Obviously there is a word translated ‘and’ but this is not what I am thinking of first.
I refer to this link.
https://biblehub.com/interlinear/genesis/1-1.htm
Extracting from this the table:
The untranslated word is אֵ֥ת, the tav and aleph or alef are the last and first letters of the Hebrew alphabet. This is equivalent to A-Z of the English alphabet.
So the word could easily have been translated ‘alphabet’, yet for some reason was not.
Alphabet represents language so an alternative translation would have been ‘language’.
Another alternative is ‘word’.
But the phonetic rendering, the sound is ‘et’ which in French and Latin for example means ‘and’.
So it could have been translated ‘and’.
Thus in the beginning was the word ‘and’!
But wait, there’s more.
In Hebrew the script is written right to left. So if ‘and’ is reversed we get ‘dna’. Yes, dna or in capitals DNA!!!
DNA, standing for Deoxyribonucleic acid, the instruction manual of life.

אֵ֥ת
Transliteration: eth
Phonetic Spelling: (ayth)
The aleph can in fact be considered like the diphthong ‘æ’ so the transliteration could be æth. This is why the phonetic spelling is written ‘ayth’.
According to Strongs concordance there are 7034 occurrences of אֵ֥ת in the Old Testament in this form, but overall there are 11050 occurrences including additional Hebrew letters forming different words. See
https://biblehub.com/hebrew/et_853.htm
Genesis 1 v.17 gives one variant, אֹתָ֛ם, meaning ‘them’. It is reasonable to say that אֵ֥ת means ‘the’ here, so the whole would be ‘the-m’.
The transliteration of אֵ֥ת is eth, and the anagram of eth is ‘the’. And this is interesting due its use in Modern Hebrew.
Use in Modern Hebrew
http://www.thekefar.com/what-is-et-in-hebrew-and-how-do-we-use-it/
ET (את) marks the definite direct object of a sentence.
For example:
She saw the car approaching – היא ראתה את המכונית מתקרבת – Here we have an את, because the object (the car) is definite.
She saw a car approaching – היא ראתה מכונית מתקרבת – No את, because the object (a car) is not definite.
Note use with definite object, i.e. ‘the’.
‘The’ is an anagram of ‘eth’, another English form of את
But biblehub.com also indicates a phonetic form ‘ayth’.
‘ayth’ is ‘a thy’ anagrammed i.e ‘a you’ as ‘thy’ is old English for ‘you’.
So it is possible to say ‘In the beginning God created you…’
This is because it says in the letter to the Romans:
“For those God foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brothers.”
Letters of אֵ֥ת
These are the Aleph and the tav. If one anagrams ‘aleph tav’ we have
alpha vet
This is very close to alphabet, a meaning I indicated earlier. Indeed, bear in mind the very close relationship between b and v. Make the ‘v’ a ‘b’ and the word is complete.
Here is another
Elva path
The meaning of Elva is “white”.
https://www.thinkbabynames.com/meaning/0/Elva
So we have the ‘white path’. On the South Downs near me the chalk paths are white which makes it clear to follow.
Thus we have the sense of אֵ֥ת meaning the clear path to follow. As Jesus said ‘I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.’
The word ‘the’ and Yahweh.
I have previously set out how the ה of יהוה, Yahweh, means ‘the’. See
‘The’ in the context of the first verse of Genesis is referring to Christ. Jesus Christ is in fact the ‘T’ he, the ‘T’ representing the tree of life and also the ‘T’, the dead ‘tree’ on which Jesus died.
And of course Jesus is a man, a male, thus ‘he’.
ET
אֵ֥ת can be seen in the letters ET as representing Extra Terrestrial, i.e. in this case the word coming down to earth, the ‘word made flesh’ in John’s words (John 1 v.14).
In fact Extra Terrestrial will anagram to ‘art rex airletters’ which might be read as ‘Are the king’s airletters’.
This gives the meaning of God sending correspondence via His Son Jesus.
“This is how God’s love was revealed among us: God sent His one and only Son into the world, so that we might live through Him.” 1 John 4 v.9
Eth and het
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heth
Eth will anagram to het. Het is the eighth letter of the Hebrew alphabet.
Eight sounds like ‘ate’ and ate is an anagram out of æth if one considers the diphthong as separate ‘a’ and ‘e’.
So one can think of ‘et’, אֵ֥ת, as aet, anagramming to ‘eat’, ‘ate’ or even ‘tea’ which in the UK is considered both the drink and a meal.
Thus the alphabet, the language, the word is food and we can remember Jesus’s words:
…Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”
Alphabet and Jesus
Anagrams of alphabet include ‘Able path’ and ‘Abel path’. With the first anagram we again have the sense of a path that one is able to follow.
With the second, this is referring back to Abel who was murdered by his brother Cain and became as it were a type, a foreshadowing of Christ. As the letter to the Hebrews says
“…Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.”
Ampersand (&)
The term ampersand is a corruption of and (&) per se and, which literally means “(the character) & by itself (is the word) and”. The symbol & is derived from the ligature of ET or et, which is the Latin word for “and”.
From
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ampersand
Note that the symbol for the ampersand, &, is very close to the numeral 8 in design.
Anagrams of ‘ampersand’ are interesting.
‘a DNA sperm’ – sperm is seed
‘man’s padre’ – i.e. man’s father, as padre is ‘father’ in Latin.
Sperm is the seed of the father and Jesus is the seed of the heavenly Father. Spermati is the Greek word for seed. As is written:
The promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. The Scripture does not say, “and to seeds,” meaning many, but “and to your seed,” meaning One, who is Christ. Galatians 3 v. 16
Strongs’ number
Note Strongs’ number for the word is 853.
853 steel is Reynolds’ premium grade of ferrous steel. Renowned for producing light, stiff, yet supple frames, 853 is the frame builder’s choice when only the best will do.
Only the best will do. This is the truth, why settle for anything less? And as is written
“Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.” John 17 v. 17
Kai
As I indicated at the start, kai is the Greek word for ‘and’.
According to Biblehub.com there are 9079 Occurrences of Kai. See
https://biblehub.com/greek/kai_2532.htm
This link explains further about kai.
https://biblehub.com/greek/2532.htm
It says
2532 kaí (the most common NT conjunction, used over 9,000 times) – and (also), very often, moreover, even, indeed (the context determines the exact sense).
[After 2532 (kaí), the most common word in the Greek NT is the definite article (“the”). 2532 (kaí) is never adversative, i.e. it never means “however” (“but”) – unlike the principal conjunction (waw) in OT Hebrew (G. Archer).]
According to this link
https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/Popular-Bible-Words.php
‘And’ is used 28364 times whilst the next most frequent word ‘the’ is used 28269 times.
‘And’ is the root of the Greek word ‘andros’ meaning ‘man’s’.
So when Jesus is considered as the Word He is this great conjunction ‘AND’, the linking word between man and God.
“For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus…”
Meaning of kai
Kai can be considered as k-ai, where the ‘k’ represents the head as in kopf in German.
The ‘ai’ might be considered as phonetically ‘aye’ meaning ‘yes’ as in ‘aye, aye sir’.
This makes the whole the ‘head yes’, Jesus is the head yes, the principal ‘yes’. This links to these words:
“For all the promises of God are “Yes” in Christ.” 2 Corinthians 1 v.20
Summary and final thoughts
There you have the word אֵ֥ת yet is has been considered untranslatable and not translated in the Old Testament.
I have shown what the word actually means; the A-Z, the language, the word. Moreover fundamentally it means ‘and’.
In the Bible we have the two languages, Hebrew in the Old Testament written right to left and Greek in the New Testament written left to right.
Thus we can say the first will be last and the last will be first, the word ‘AND’ reversed to ‘DNA’, the instructions for life.
Jesus is described in the book of Revelation as the Alpha and Omega, the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet.
But He is also the Aleph and the Tav, the first and last letters of the Hebrew alphabet.
He will be the first and last letters of all other languages too, but for those of us who speak English is the A to Z.
Jesus Christ is the heavenly Father’s Word, His DNA, His seed, seed from which springs forth life so that as Jesus says
“The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life.”
Jesus is the kai and the et, the ‘and’, the root of the Greek word or man, thus He is the root of mankind, a Great Conjunction between God and man.
So we can say in the beginning was the word AND…
