‘Silent night, holy night’

The first line of a well-known carol celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ, and according to Wikipedia

“Silent Night” (German: “Stille Nacht, heilige Nacht”) is a popular Christmas carol, composed in 1818 by Franz Xaver Gruber to lyrics by Joseph Mohr in Oberndorf bei Salzburg, Austria.

Anyway, as I do I was looking at anagrams of ‘Silent night;’ and found some interesting phrases.

Silent night

Silent gh = 8 individual letters

It is worth noting first that ‘silent’ anagrams to several one word full anagrams including ‘listen’.

To listen and take on board something one has to be silent in one’s mind as much as silent in voice and background noise.

So as night has the one word anagram ‘thing’ we can get:

- Listen thing

We talk about the sound of silence and even Simon and Garfunkel wrote a song about that.

Then there is

- tinsel thing

Which might explain the love of tinsel on Christmas trees.

- hit single tn

I am not aware ‘Silent Night’ has been a hit single but it has been sung ever since it was composed.

And Simon and Garfunkel included a version on their album Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme called ‘7 O’clock News / Silent Night’.

Those are interesting but here are some which are very relevant to the birth of Christ the most obvious being

- inn lightest

Jesus the light of the world was born at the inn.

- sent in light

As is written

“For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him.”

- lent insight

And it gave us insight into the mind of God that he would be prepared to enter his own world as a vulnerable child.

- I lightens NT

The birth of Jesus provides the basis of the New Testament, the new will and testament of God to the nations which would be verified by Jesus’s death on the cross and subsequent resurrection.

I will also mention these anagrams:

- nighest lint

- eg hint lints

- he lint sting

Lint is something used from linen cloth to dress a wound which is an indication of the nature of Christ would bind up our wounds.

Lint also

is the computer science term for a static code analysis tool used to flag programming errors, bugs, stylistic errors and suspicious constructs.

Jesus is the software as it were, the language, the word to correct our programming errors.

As is written in psalm 147:3

“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”

And as he says in Matthew 11 v.28

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”

Those are some observations I had and I thought I would also look briefly at the German.

Stille Nacht

Stille has the sense of being still to be silent and interestingly ‘stillen’ is German for ‘breastfeeding’ when a baby will be quiet. As to anagrams, without the ‘s’ we can get in German

- alten licht

This means ‘old light’ as Jesus was in the beginning of creation, the ‘old light’ of the world as it were.

If we take English anagrams we can have

- chatlines lt

Jesus would open up the direct line to God.

- I tells chant

A song which tells the story of Christ’s birth.

- hill act sent

Jesus would go to the hill at Golgotha to be crucified.

The last line of the carol

This is ‘Christ, in deiner Geburt!’ translated as ‘Jesus, Lord, at thy birth!’

Christ, in deiner Geburt can become in English:

- reinducting rebirthes

- behind it resurrecting

Jesus would bring people into his kingdom by rebirth through the Holy Spirit and a renewed spirit; a new spiritual birth would mean that there would be a resurrection of the body to a new body like Jesus.

Summary and final thoughts

So there you have ‘Silent Night’ which has indications in the phrase as to the implications for us in Christ Jesus.

Jesus is the ‘alten licht’, the old light as well as the new light as he is the everlasting light.

As he says “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life.”

This light came into the world at an inn in Bethlehem hence we have ‘inn lightest’ as an anagram of ‘Silent night’.

But it could also be ‘et lights inn’ as ‘et’ is the untranslated word in the first line of Bible and means in essence ‘A-Z’ or ‘word’ as I discuss in my post, link below.

Finally I will point out this:

- light tennis

So is the game of tennis light to our darkness? As to that question you will have to wait and see.
