I would sooner wear a hat, and I don't like hats...
In Canada, I embrace each season ( well, not this year, with a total of 11 feet of snow. Oh, and 1" of freezing rain now, so power has been out for 24 hours.)
Every year, I would get a "burn", which turned to a tan in several days.
Much of the "D" we get from the sun, so "cheap sunglasses" not an option.
I take supplemental D year round, but would much rather get it fom the sun...
Such an interesting piece. I’d love to know your thoughts on skin burning and seed oils? My husband and I climbed Ben More on the Isle of Mull last year in what was probably the hottest day of the 2024. (Incidentally, as we reached the summit, a golden eagle soared below us - what a day to remember) We were exposed to the sun all day in shorts and T shirts with no sun screen - although we wore hats mainly to shade our eyes. Neither of us burned at all and I put it down to eliminating seed oils from our diet but perhaps I’m wrong?
What a wonderful experience on Mull. I have no researched seed oils but I am aware of issues. I understand it is the industrial processing and introduction of other chemicals as much as anything.
I mentioned in my post on sodium nitrite issues with MSG which sometimes has ammonia used in the processing and I consider that it is the negative effects of excess nitrogen ions which cause the damage.
The isle of Mull is quite far north, so subject to UV levels perhaps strength is less anyway.
I understand that a lot of vitamin D is absorbed through your eyes - not looking at the sun directly, so sunglasses are not helpful there. My prescription specs are shaded (annoying when you go inside and it's all dark) but when I'm outside here I don't wear them, only for driving or if we are on trips and I like to see non-blurry views! I'm outside most days, I don't have sunblock anymore for my lily white skin and freckles. The wind tans as does the sun - when it isn't blocked out by the chem trails. I also do not burn. But then we eat healthy food and grow our own for the most part - nobody is perfect and I like bad things too, but in moderation. Interesting about the seed oils - we use coconut, olive and whatever we render from our meat - bacon mmmmmmmm, beef, goose etc. I intend to make salves and things - just need to get some little pots while the dandelions infuse.
Here's an excellent post on the subject of the sun and its benefits and avoiding the need for vit D supplements.

So glad you mentioned sunscreen.
I have never used it.

It may be pretty far north but top is very close to the sun. 😅
As kids our mother would tell us, go outside and get some vitamin D on your head.
God created the heavens and the earth and declared it to be good. I am sure that also includes the sun.
Excellent article. Well done !!!
Thank you John.
