I’m often asked how I keep up with the news. Obviously, I avoid the unhinged rightwing outlets pushing misinformation, disinformation and poisonous lies.

Not that it doesn’t have some sensible stuff, it’s just one has to be discerning and not believe all one reads there.

The Guardian is mainstream media of course. Even Wikipedia indicates this. It says
In 2007, the newspaper was ranked first in a study on transparency that analysed 25 mainstream English-language media vehicles, which was conducted by the International Center for Media and the Public Agenda of the University of Maryland. It scored 3.8 out of a possible 4.0.

The University of Maryland, not the most highly ranked university in the USA, is rather biased towards the Democratic Party so perhaps one might take the study with a large pinch of salt.

Three biases
First, it often favors the status quo. Mainstream journalists wanting to appear serious about public policy rip into progressives for the costs of their proposals, but never ask self-styled “moderates” how they plan to cope with the costs of doing nothing or doing too little about the same problems.
A Green New Deal might be expensive but doing nothing about the climate crisis will almost certainly cost far more.
He buys into the climate crisis fear mongering rather than addressing the pollution issues which are serious.
Medicare for All will cost a lot, but the price of doing nothing about America’s cruel and dysfunctional healthcare system will soon be in the stratosphere.
Medicare for all will only fuel more Big Pharma profit but it is true that the U.S.A.’s healthcare system is cruel and dysfunctional. He is part of the problem though as he fails to see the harm of vaccines for example. See

Second, it fails to report critical public choices. Any day now, the Senate will approve giving $778bn to the military for this fiscal year. That’s billions more than the Pentagon sought. It’s four times the size of Biden’s Build Back Better bill, which comes to around $175bn a year. But where’s the reporting on the effects of this spending on the national debt, or on inflation, or whether it’s even necessary?
Bear in mind this is in Biden’s term of office with the Democratic Party in control whom Robert supports.
I guess they were planning for the invasion of the Ukraine the following year just a few months away. They had to have the taxpayers’ money ready for laundering.
Third, it indulges in false equivalence, claiming that certain Republican and Democratic lawmakers are emerging as “troublemakers” within their parties or that extremists “on both sides” are “radicalizing each other”.
These reports equate Republican lawmakers who are actively promoting Donald Trump’s big lie that the 2020 election was stolen with Democratic lawmakers who are fighting to protect voting rights. These are not equivalent. Trump’s big lie is a direct challenge to American democracy.
He bashes on about this. The big lie is Robert and the Democrats ignoring the obvious that Joe Biden was never fit to run for president (cycling and walking was hard enough), and he was installed, as they say, like a toilet.
As to protecting voting rights, these are the rights to not have to attend in person so someone else can vote the ‘right’ way for you. When I say right way perhaps I should say left way as it’s the Democrats.
He continues further on
The old labels “left” versus “right” are fast becoming outdated. Today, it’s democracy versus authoritarianism. Equating them is misleading and dangerous.
He seems to think that the ‘left’ is for democracy and the right isn’t but he has forgotten his history. Both left and right are part of the problem when people are corrupted on both sides, and get manipulated by the very wealthy who play both sides.
Why doesn’t the mainstream media see this? Not just because of its dependence on corporate money.
Like the Guardian. Perhaps he hasn’t read Wikipedia link on the Guardian which says
The new project developed from funding relationships which the paper already had with the Ford, Rockefeller, and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Gates had given the organization $5 million for its Global Development webpage.
Robert continues.
I think the source of the bias is more subtle.
Top editors and reporters, usually based in New York and Washington, want to be accepted into the circles of the powerful – not only for sources of news but also because such acceptance is psychologically seductive. It confers a degree of success. But once accepted, they can’t help but begin to see the world through the eyes of the powerful.
We can include the Guardian in this too.
I follow the mainstream media, but I don’t limit myself to it. And I don’t rely on it to educate the public about bold, progressive ideas that would make America and the world fairer and stronger.

What the News is exceptional at doing is putting people into states of panic and fear. When you're afraid or anxious, you're going to want to have someone provide you some type of recourse. By keeping you "tuned in" they are able to sell more advertisements, because it's all about ratings and the number of people that the message/advertisement reaches.
This was particularly evident with COVID 19 when they ‘sold’ the usual ‘flu as a new mutated deadly disease. All the mainstream media outlets were at it, including the Guardian.
Mainstream media ownership and control
It is difficult to ascertain ownership of public companies as they are owned by shareholders, although ultimately can be controlled by majority shareholdings.
Still, one can make some observations. One such observation is the dominance of people with Jewish origins.
Although not directly mainstream news outlets as such, worldwide 8 out of top 10 companies by revenue are based in the USA according to this link.

Outstripping them all by a large margin is Alphabet Inc. which includes Google as a subsidiary which was the main basis of Alphabet Inc. Google was founded by Larry Page and Sergey Brin, both with Jewish origins.
As to Alphabet Inc.’s key people 2 of 4 people, Ruth Porat (President and CIO) and Anat Ashkenazi (CFO) are Jewish/Israeli respectively.
Nevertheless, Page and Brin remain on the board and are controlling shareholders.

Second on the list is Meta Platforms Inc. which includes Facebook, founded by 5 people including Mark Zuckerberg who is Chairman and CEO of Meta. He is Jewish.

As regards mainstream media in the U.S.A. there are the big five.

I make that 15 key people 4 of whom are Jewish which is a good 25+%. This similar to the number that was in Joe Biden’s cabinet.
Bear in mind that the % population in the U.S.A. is no more than 4% at most, so there is a very heavy bias.
In these days of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) one might ask why this is. After all, it is the mainstream media that pushes this as much as anything.

Summary and final thoughts
So there you have the mainstream media and its problems discussed by two Jewish men. Whilst Reich sees the problems to a degree, he is too blinkered to see his own left wing bias as part of the problem.
As to Chomsky he seems to have a much better overview although like Reich when it came to COVID 19 he lost the plot.

You can read it and see for yourself, but like Reich he fell for the lies and proved how foolish he could be.
Unless of course he was asked to push the lies. It is worth looking at the comments as it seems strange he did this, it was out of character.
Nevertheless, he identified the corporate power which really runs the world, particularly noticeable in the U.S.A. where the largest firms are based.
And, as I have pointed out, are significantly controlled by Jews, well above the number to be expected.
Anyway, trust in mainstream media has been declining, including in the BBC which tows the government line and lies through its back teeth over COVID 19.
This is mainstream media for you and, as the anagrams suggest, hides a satanic agenda. Here are two more anagrams for you:

Of course the word ‘Satan’ is found in the word ‘mainstream’. The mainstream is the wide way that the majority take which reminds me of Jesus’s words;
“Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the way that leads to life, and only a few find it.”
So in the broad way you find Satan and his minions at work, in the mainstream, leading the masses who believe the messaging to their harm and destruction.
And that is the root cause of what’s really wrong with the mainstream media.
P.S. I see ‘alternative media’ contains the word ‘Devil’, so clearly there are problems there too. Thus we get the controlled opposition and people who are exploiting those looking for the truth outside of the mainstream.
