I was briefly in Groeningen last year for about 4-5 hours. I was there for a day about 15 years ago as well, a seminar on minimalism in the Biblical jurisdiction being what drew me that time. This time I stopped off to check out its cycling culture. It is where the cycling culture of the Netherlands started with an election of a left wing council in the 1970s.
The main part of the city is for pedestrians and cyclists and it is quite pleasant. Of course these days many Netherlands cities are similar.
Interesting how towns get their names and what those names really mean. When I traveled to different cities and towns as a factory representative I would ask sometimes how the town got its peculiar name. Most of the time it wasn’t what I was thought. More often than not there was always an interesting hidden historical meaning that referenced the events or a person from that towns past.

Yes, my niece said everyone cycles. My sort of place as I am a keen cyclist, albeit with my energy issues I do very little at the moment.
Mind you, I do like hills to climb too, so I think it must be a bit monotonous sometimes.
